2 Reasons Why You Should Not Neglect The Importance of Navigation in Theme

A week ago, I stumbled upon a new blog to read- SiteSketch101. I found the blog very interesting in every way. The content, the design and the layout, everything was perfect. What impressed me the most about the blog was the navigation of the blog? The blog admin is using some custom built theme for his blog and I am damn sure that every penny he has spent on the blog’s theme is proving its worth. He has the best theme for his blog and I have become the fan of his navigation style.

Navigation has always been a neglected part by majority of the bloggers when it comes to theme designing. They pay full attention to the color scheme, layout and SEO but often skip that navigation is as important. I feel that navigation is very important part because

  1. Readers will read your content- As soon as someone visits your blog, he will appreciate it because you have awesome content and he will look to read further. A good navigated blog will make good content easily accessible for him and he would not have to search for it. Mind you, readers find scrolling very irritating and it’s best that you provide the best material before the fold. This will help you in terms of getting traffic and more page views. Provide the next and previous posts link before the post and the popular and recent articles in the sidebar before the fold. This will ensure maximum readability in one visit which is what every blogger wants from his blog.
  2. Bounce rate will reduce- This is pretty much related to the above mentioned point. If visitors like your one post, they will surely move on to others and your bounce rate will reduce. I have always believed that bounce rate is one of the best metric for the analysis of a blog because this tells that visitors are not a one time hits, they are real and checking out the other things. The bounce rate of BloggersPassion has never gone beyond 10% and it is hovering around 7%. I am quite happy with this although the traffic is not great. So, good content coupled with good theme navigation can prove wonders for you.

Concluding, navigation needs to be paid more attention because it can help you in getting more page views, more visits and less bounce rate. But this will only work when your content is worth reading. Your best effort should go to content and rest needs to be done wisely to get a successful blogging career.

thanks for the post, you need to write an article on designing a good navigation system for your blog and not just tell us why. Sorry if that sounded a bit harsh.
