When I first heard about blogging, it was branded as your space on the web. People accepted it with both hands and started blogging. Blogs became a craze and having a blog was considered to be a status symbol (true guys, I have seen it for myself how one of my friend got more attention from my teachers just because he boasted of a blog that was actually written by his father).
That was 7-8 years ago. Slowly, some smart internet users found a new way to get attention through their blog. They thought of making money in a very obvious way- make money by teaching people how to make money. WordPress made its way and soon became the best option for those who wanted a blog with their own domain.
And today, every one of us knows what is blogging, how to start and what can you achieve. Things have changed drastically and teens in the age group are the ones most attracted to this. But still, somewhere in the people’s mind, a thought resides that bloggers are not normal people. Making money and living your life just with it is impossible.

Here are 5 misconceptions that I have come across among people in my journey of blogging.
-
You can’t make money with blogging- The most common one. I do not want to talk about others but in my own home, I have found it very difficult to convince my parents that I can actually make money with blogging. They have always looked at me in suspicion when I say that I just won a contest. People here in India are still to believe that with right strategy, you can ACTUALLY make money with a blog.
-
Blogging is free- For those who have heard of it somewhere, they do not know that serious blogging these days cost a little amount for domain and hosting. Many are unaware of the WordPress and Joomla and do not know that having something like www.tusharagarwal.com as own web address is possible.
-
Blogging is time pass- Blogging is not considered to be a fruitful activity till date. People have this misconception that it is a time pass activity for free people.
-
Blog is an online diary- Come on, we have moved after that, haven’t we? Blog is not just an online diary. In fact, I find very few people these days that actually use blog for writing their diary.
-
Bloggers are mad- This one is related to me an extent. I was laughed over this by my friends when I told them that I have become a blogger. And they found it funnier when I said that through blogging, I can earn some money. I do not know how many of you have experienced this but in India, people never take bloggers seriously and they are written off before they actually do something.
Having said that, my motive through this post is not to tell about these misconceptions. You probably know this and might have experienced yourself. What I truly want to do is that to remove these misconceptions from general public’s mind. I want to tell them that above points hold no value is today’s world. Bloggers like Darren Rowse and Harsh Agarwal are few for whom the major source of income is their blog.
Let’s vow to make people aware of what blogging is and what it can do to change their life.

Wow, Tushar, I am happy that you do not let those nonbelievers discourage you from your blogging. I think I can relate to you – there are people who do not really believe that you can earn from blogging. Please continue writing on your blog and do not let others weigh you down just because they do not know anything about blogging. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I strongly believe that what you mentioned does not only happen in India, but in other countries as well.
i am too sure about it felicia…its a general problem although less prominent in developed countries
You can make money blogging but it takes time .
Very true make a cash from blogging needs time, more efforts, patience and you should know what you are doing. If you are interested in what you are blogging and doing it in the right direction, sure you will soon be successful in it.
Bro, I have experience the You can’t make money with blogging parents fiasco. Thats why I added services and working on them too along with blogging. When I have shown them the money I earned with my services, they started believing my words and now they let them to choose my own path.
and i think that is pretty much the story of every guy in india….
until you show your parents that you are earning from your blog, they won’t believe you at all
I can see the level of Research you have done to compile this article Tushar. This is not a comment just to say “wow your article is so great” or “i like this post”. I just want to share my views where i believed that online money making is always possible and the only genuine way without letting others down is blogging.
Bloggers have the passion and spirit to learn and earn. They are real hardworkers too. Its not that easy to sit in front of the system for 8 hours plus. I too criticized by my family and when i was in school, my teachers. They simply thought that i am doing nothing than watching movies and games when i sit in front of the system. But i had and still have the attitude of learning and doing it till date.
Blogging is an art. Its not easy for every one to do and get succeeded. Even facebook might be a failure project if Mark Zuckerberg didnt sit in front of his system for long time and analyze the way the people communicate via online. He clearly understood how to, where to and when to approach the internet with his business.
I have lot to share but limiting it as time restricts me.
I am expecting this kind of open talks to have a social discussion over here. The blog title, i love it..
Bloggers Passion.
Cheers.
thanks robin….
i am going to save this comment somewhere on my desktop and read it every single day i sit down to blog. Few days ago i wrote a post what keep us simple bloggers motivated @ http://bloggerspassion.com/blogging/blogging-tips/what-keeps-simple-bloggers-motivated/ and i must say that the comments and encouragement like this is something that satisfy almost every blogger more than their paychecks.
coming to your comment content, sure enough blogging is an art and requires that much passion and hardwork as any other profession does. and successful are those bloggers only who take it seriously and work as if it is the only thing you live for. Thanks for that great example of Mark of Facebook…
and lastly, thanks for the domain name comment
You definitely can make money while blogging. I am myself starting to earn some money through my various websites. What you need to keep in mind though is that there are too many people trying to make money. They start a blog because they thinks it’s easy to make money (so have I). But it’s not. I have now been blogging for over 2 years and I am just starting to generate some income stream.
Nice article…….
i liked it…….
Really enjoyed your post. You write well (is English your second language? If it is good job!) also voted up on Blog Engage. And I think all bloggers have to be just a little bit mad…
yupp…my first language is hindi….
Good for you!
With googles latest changes, blogging will become extremely important, and not just by placing our own links but links to other .org .edu and other high ranking sites. Let’s not look so promotional, vs. let’s get over googles lastest change.
In fact google hit hard this week, to many sites, and just after the latest blow of lessening the value of the hard worked articles we’ve placed on the major article sites like ezinearticles, goarticles or articlebase. On the heels of that change, they whoop it on us this latest change in google rankings. Remember, just don’t be promotional. If you’re listening to the misconceptions about blogging, this is so-so-so important.
