Do Not Change Your Blog Theme Too Often

by Anil Agarwal

This is BizOppers

Shifting to WordPress was very exciting for me for many reasons. I was very happy to get my blog running with my own hosting. Secondly, it felt very nice whenever I thought of installing new plugins and administering my blog. And third reason, not that important but important enough for me to get carried over, I will get to choose the theme of my blog and monitoring every stage of its development. But the search was tough once I started looking for free themes. It was a tough decision to make and I have to make one.

I got the theme I was looking for (not exactly) and after a month or so with that, I figured out that this is not the best one. I could change it and there are better themes available. I changed the theme and the aftermaths of it prompted me to write this post.

Changing themes too often is not a good idea. It gets complicated for both your users and you.

For you

1. It is boring every time to install the widgets you installed with the previous theme and adjust its settings and appearance.

2. You have to insert Google webmaster verification code every time you change the theme.

3. Testing your theme with every browser is a tiresome process and can take days to make minor adjustments.

For Readers

1. Readers do not like reading the same blog daily with a different layout and honestly guys, it piss them off.

2. They have to search for links every day in a new place in your blog which won’t do you any good.

3. The new theme might not work well with their browser and they will not care of visiting you again, so you lose a loyal visitor.

I will suggest you that if you really want to change the theme, wait for at least 6 months. Try and test your existing theme in various adjustments and it might work well.

I used to change my theme every 3 months in the past, but no more after I used Thesis theme. I’ll just customize it a bit when I have some inspiration or I would like to make some little changes on the theme.

It took me few hours to change a theme in the past, if changing theme too frequent and your readers will panic about the blog they visit.

Best Regards,
Lee
