In India, blogging started as a simple pastime, something that gave all of us a chance to be a part of the blogosphere. It was much for status rather than for living and Google’s Blogger or BlogSpot was the most popular because it was free and nothing complicated.
But time changed and blogging took a completely different turn. Guys like Problogger and John Chow said it was possible to make money and made it possible to make money through blogging and live a life. Seeing them many bloggers came, started got popular and went because at one stage of time, they faced the dilemma whether to invest money in their blog or not. After all, blogging is meant to make money, not spend on it. So, they chose the latter and stopped blogging.
I too thought that I can be a successful blogger without my own hosting and domain. But guess what? I was terribly wrong. I accepted the fact that I need to put some money in blogging to get desired results. And it has started to show what I wanted from my blog. So, I thought it would be a nice post for those who are thinking to start their own blog that exactly how much they need to start a blog in India.
1. Internet Connection- Internet has become quite cheap if you are accessing at home. Internet from government companies like BSNL and MTNL just cost you Rs. 250 per month minimum. There are different plans for Rs. 500 and 750. Also, after the coming of private players and introduction of wireless broadband has made it easily accessible at the cost of Rs. 2000.00 (one time charges) anywhere.
2. Hosting and domain- Hosting will not cost you more than Rs. 1500-2000 annually if you do good research. I am on a hosting that just charges me Rs. 600 for a year. And domain name have become cheaper in last few years costing around Rs 500/ year.
3. Theme- Well, you can get an awesome theme without spending a single dime but I would suggest you to get a premium theme for your blog. They start from as low as $10 and goes up to $100.
These are the 3 basic requirements. If you also want to get your theme customized for your blog and would like to advertise your new blog so that it reach people, you need extra money. Advertising has become quite cheap but customization is a bit expensive part. To get both things done, you need to shell out Rs. 5000 at least.
So, let’s sum up the above (I have taken average amount for everything)
1. Internet- Rs. 500.00 For those who have access to BSNL/ MTNL services
Rs. 2000.00 who are using wireless broadband
2. Hosting Rs. 1000.00 per year
3. Domain Rs. 400.00 per year
4. Theme- Rs. 800.00
Rs. 2700.00 or Rs. 4200.00 as per your internet connection
Add to it the customization and advertising and you will reach around Rs. 8000.00 mark. I know this is a big amount for Indians to invest in a field like blogging in their initial days. To make things little simple, in my next post, I will tell you how you should put your money in blogging so that it gets maximum benefits to your blog.

That’s a good piece information. Investing should be done in small amounts at the beginning to gain some experience out of it before investing larger amounts.
