The first thing you should do to protect your computer and your data is to create a good password or key. People tend to use easy to remember passwords which are easy to guess, but this is not “healthy” for your computer and your confidential information. If you use passwords easy to remember and also easy to guess this will be easy to “break” for hackers to guess.
Types of passwords that you should NEVER use
- Never use passwords that can be found in a dictionary, no matter which word is rare, Why? Because there are hundreds of automated computer programs (software) hackers use to “break” any word that you use and through automated search in dictionary. In the computer security world this is known as “Dictionary Attack”.
- Never use passwords less than 8 characters. Why? Because the shorter your password is, easier is to “break” or guess.
- Never put numbers after the password if the word is used as a password in a dictionary. Many people think that putting numbers after the password (eg telephone3) will make them safer, but it is not. Why? Because hackers have huge lists of passwords with dictionary words but with added numbers like the ones you use.
If you want to use a common word as a password then numbers and special character should be placed in between letters or some letters replaced by special characters. Example with the name Carlos - C @ rlo $ . This makes it a little safer or difficult to break or guess.
- Never use passwords related to your hobbies, career, pets, birth dates, names of their children, husband / wife, family, friends, names of objects, places or people. Why? Because hackers know that people tend to create passwords related to all these things and use it against them. Besides all these words can be found in dictionaries or lists of names.
How to create a strong password
Note: A strong password is one that is easy to remember but hard to guess.
- If you want a password easy to remember, but hard to guess, memorize a phrase and use the initial of each word in that phrase as a password, and finally a period (.) or special character (!, @, #, $ ,%, ^, &, *, etc..) and at least one number and one capital letter.
Example: M e g usta l to N Christm ( Mgln $ 123 ) but does not seem like this is a strong password.
- Always use a password of 8 to 14 characters. Minimum 8.
- Always use passwords combined with upper and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. Since they are the most difficult to “break”. Example: Abcde @ 30
- It is advisable to change your passwords every 30 days.
- The user name and password must be different.

Its a good idea to create strong passwords. The problem comes when its time to remember them. There are a number of software programs out there that create and encrypt stored passwords. This means only 1 password is required to access all other stored passwords.
Using strong password is very vital for internet marketer. I have one bad experience with weak password. My blog was hacked and got many malwares. Since then I change my password as you explained in the article. A very good tips guy and I recommend everyone to set strong password.
I’ve learnt from experience that bolstering your passwords is really important. These days, no one is safe and you must do all you can from your end to safeguard your accounts. Always used not only alphanumerics but atleast a few symbols that are random and difficult to decipher and keep changing them.
