Increase Your Traffic – The Long Tail Way

How much time do you spend viewing the amount of traffic coming to your site? Do you evaluate the traffic sources so much that you get tired of doing it? Anybody with a website of some kind will look at their traffic but what the majority of people don’t do is they don’t look to see where their website is ranking on the search engines.

For this post I am just going to refer to Google since they are the biggest search engine right now.

The reason you need to know where your website is ranking on the search engines is because that is where you will get the best traffic. What most people end up doing is they only look to see which large volume keywords they are ranking for and nothing else.

This is the problem!

If you are only looking at the large volume searches (1,000+ local searches per month), then you are not building links to your website using some of the long tail keywords. The reason why this is a problem is because it is a lot harder to rank for large volume keywords and there are a lot less of them out there. If you want to get the most traffic to your website, then you need to use long tail keywords to get it.

How Do I Rank For Long Tail Keywords?

The trick to ranking for long tail keywords is to first see where your website is at with the long tail keywords already. Most websites that have 20, 50 or even 100 posts on them will be ranking for lots of long tail keywords so you should see which ones they are. The best way to go about doing this is to pay for a month subscription with Semrush.com or use Google Webmaster Tools. These will both work and the nice thing is they will tell you where your site ranks for that particular keyword. Once you know this you will then be able to start building backlinks to your site using that keyword as your anchor text.

Best 2 Link Building Techniques

Web 2.0 Links – One of the best link building techniques is to use web 2.0 properties. The great thing about these links is that they will outdo any article submission, they are much better than blog comments and they are easy to do. Another great thing about web 2.0 links is there are a lot of them out there. What I would recommend is that you write 1 really good article and submit it to Squidoo.com, WordPress.com, Hubpages.com and Infobarrel.com. If you can get 4 good links to all your long tail keywords, then you should easily outrank anybody that is ahead of you for that particular keyword.

Note: When building web 2.0 links you should alter the title a little bit and also the first paragraph so that they don’t look identical to the other pages.

Guest Posts – My favorite way to build backlinks is by writing guest posts. The best part about a guest post is that you are putting your link up on a website that already has a high page rank, thousands of links and hundreds if not thousands of daily visitors. Another thing that is good about a guest post is that they hold more weight when it comes to Google’s algorithm. Google likes links but they love links from credible websites and that is the reason guest posts are the best link building method around.

Note: My advice is to write at least 3 guest posts each week so that you can target as many new keywords as you possibly can over the course of a year. Try this for 1 month and see how much more traffic you have after that.

These are the best 2 link building techniques out there but that doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything else. If you want to do some blog commenting, forum posts or article submissions, then go right ahead and do so. Just know that the only way you will increase your traffic the long tail way is to build links using those long tail keywords.
