What I Learned About StumbleUpon in 3 Tries?

First thing first, this post is not a tutorial on how to use Stumble Upon for traffic. There are already lots of articles on this topic on the web. I will be sharing with you what I learned about its traffic after 3 link submission.

StumbleUpon (SU) always has been one of the best ways to get free traffic. Seasoned bloggers might not use it very intensively but for new bloggers, it is always been a good consistent source. It does not matter whether it is your first ever post or your blog is a year old, the moment you submit your post to SU, you will get visits.

It sounds good till here but here is what I want to tell you about SU traffic. No doubt, SU will get you consistent traffic till the date you continue to use it. But here are some facts I find out after submitting 3 links within 15 minutes on SU.

1. 3 visits each- As soon as I submitted my links to SU, I immediately received 3 unique visits to my blog with a span of 10 seconds. After that, there were no visits at all. I again promoted my links and got 3 more visits. So, it looks like that SU sends 3 immediate visits to your blog. (Please share you experience also. I also want to know that is it the case with everyone?)
2. Very low average time on site- The average time for the visits through SU was less than 10 seconds. I was surprised because till date, in 6 months of my blog’s lifetime, the average time on site has always been very good. And the 9 visits from SU just managed to achieve only 10 seconds. It was too low.
3. Low bounce rate- May be this was the only positive of the traffic through SU. The bounce rate was almost zero, thus confirming it that people through SU found time to visit more than one page. And I was a little amazed because even when the bounce rate is quite low, the average time was very little. I have always though that average time on site is inversely proportional to the bounce rate.

CONCLUSION

My verdict on SU is that it does sends you traffic to the blog but that it is not the quality traffic. New bloggers can get excited that they are getting traffic from day one but soon they will find out the reality. I am not against SU but I think it is not fair to pollute my blog’s stats with SU traffic.
