Are you looking for ways to increase AdSense CPC? If you are searching to increase AdSense CTR of your blogs in 2020, you are in the right place.

We all know that Google AdSense is the most popular PPC (Pay Per Click) network where any website owner can use them to increase their online visibility and click through rates.

As I had Google AdSense for a long time (also used for years for this blog), I know few secret tips and tricks that can help you increase your CPC and CTR rates to boost your income.

What is Adsense CPC?

In simple words, CPC is cost per click and it is the money that we earn for each click made on Google Adsense ads placed on our website. There are so many ways to increase your CPC rates on your websites:

  • Create relevant ads
  • Create compelling ads that attract visitors to click
  • Optimize your ads text

And many more which we will be covering in this detailed article.

What is Adsense CTR?

Click Through rate is the percentage of people clicking Adsense ads on our website.

Let’s imagine your average CPC is $0.2 and if you got 12,500 average clicks, you should receive around $5,000. Now, if your CPC is $0.3 with the same number of clicks, you could generate $7,500. See, just with a $0.1 increase, you are able to generate additional $2,500. This is the reason why you need to focus on improving your click through rates (CTR) instead of focusing on getting more clicks in the first place.

Adsense CPC will depend a lot on your website niche. If you are operating in a highly competitive niche, cost per click (CPC) will be much higher for ads that are placed on your website. But highly competitive niche means, you need to put in extra efforts and time to get targeted traffic to your website.

Tips to improve Google Adsense CPC & CTR in 2020

Before diving into the details, you must know few things about CPC and CTR.

How to calculate your CPC?

Your CPC will be less than or equal to max. bid, because it’s an avg of bids of all the competitors in a specific period of time. Lets get into the details without much ado on increasing your CPC and CTR rates using Google AdSense PPC ads.

1. Website Niche

First thing that you have to do is choose a good niche for your website. Niche related to internet marketing, web development, finance, gaming and health etc are high paying as the CPC for keywords related to these niche’s are quite good. Most of the times, you would not get good CPC in case you decide to go for education or entertainment related niche’s.

It doesn’t matter how much you want to make from Google AdSense, you just have first focus on choosing a website niche that is either ever green or giving you rock solid income opportunities for a long time. Selecting your niche can determine how much money you can generate each and every month from your Google AdSense ads.

Please go through the above article for picking up a better niche for your businesses to make more money online each and every month.

2. Find profitable keywords

Do you want to know how to increase CTR AdSense? Create a list of all the profitable keyword ideas in your field and start using them while creating content for your blogs.

Keyword research is the key to increase AdSense CPC. If you are looking for proven ways on how to get high cpc adsense for your blogs, here are few keyword research tips for you.

  • Spy on your competitors best performing keywords. One of the easiest ways on how to increase your CTR AdSense is to find out all the keywords that are being used by the top earning blogs in your field. You can do this by using tools such as SEMrush. It can really help you find out all the top keywords of any niche! Here’s a detailed guide about it.
  • Always find long tail keywords. They are easier to rank and give you lots of search traffic to your blogs. You can create lots of content by using long tail keywords. If you are wondering how to increase AdSense CPC with long tail keywords, I highly recommend you to give a try to Long Tail Pro.
  • Make sure to find and use the keywords with a global search volume between 1000 to 2000 monthly searches. Using low competitive keywords can really help you increase cpc.
  • Always write keyword rich content. Before creating any new content for your blogs, make sure to do keyword research. Only after finding the primary and secondary keywords for your blogs, start creating content around it. That way you can quickly boost your blog’s search traffic as well as AdSense CPC and CTR.

3. Create compelling ads that attract visitors to click

Focus on choosing your website visitors over ads. If you focus on your customers needs and wants, you will be able to create better Google AdSense campaigns to make decent passive income from AdSense ads. Use Google adwords keywords suggestion tool to come up with relevant phrases for your ads, focus on how competitive the keywords are and also analyze how much they can generate you for each keyword.

You need to ask yourself few questions before creating any campaign. Here few of them are

  • Are these keywords searchable on Google?
  • Do people really like to click on these ads without thinking much?
  • How much each ad can generate (per click) aka analyze your CPC

Compelling ads always generate more CTR as they don’t give any false hopes to the visitors, and compelling ads always stand out from the competition. While creating ads, don’t imagine you are creating ads to generate more money, instead think from your customers point of view to generate more clicks.

Your headline of the ad, description and URL are the 3 essential ingredients that can make or break your click through rates, so make sure to have

Ad placement is also the key.

Where you put your ads on your blog’s design plays a huge role in increasing your AdSense CTR and CPC. Here’s a simple screenshot that explains you about the ad placement.

ad location

The first block (which can be seen left side above) usually gives you highest CPC and CTR because the ad placement is so good when compared to the second block.

4. Quality content is the key

Quality content is one the primary reasons few websites get more CPC rates from AdSense ads. The websites that generate more income from AdSense focus on creating relevant content instead of writing everything under the sun.

One thing should keep in mind is that you should write contents around your website niche only. This way, you will be able to convert your website into well themed website for that niche. In case, you start writing about unrelated niche, you will see drop in click through rate you are getting on your Google Adsense Ads.

This way you may even lose lots of your existing users as they are visiting your website to see latest contents about that niche only and not about any unrelated niche. Hope you got my point.

5. Create converting landing pages

Once the visitor lands on your site for the first time, he will be first noticing your design elements of your websites. If your design is messy and give a spam feel, they will click exit button right away. So don’t create messy design just to generate more sales from your ads, it can kill your conversion rates.

Don’t create false promises on your landing pages and always make sure to deliver what you have promised  on your headlines, or description of the ads. That way you will be able to get more CPC (cost per click) rates from your Google AdSense campaigns.

Here are few tips and tricks for increasing your AdSense CTR and CPC with your landing pages.

  • Always focus on creating landing pages that are less distractive. The less distraction you provide the more benefits you will get.
  • Use tools like GetResponse, LeadPages etc to create landing pages. They are cost effective and extremely easy to create stunning landing pages.
  • Analayze how others are using landing pages in your field. See if you can replicate some of their features to boost your AdSense CTR.

6. Visitors location

Your website visitors location (geometric location such as US, UK, India) also matter when it comes about improving the CRT for Google Adsense Ads. A single click from US location can give you a CPC of $1 to $5 or even more and while the same click from Asian location will give you a CPC of $.01 to $1 only.

You should look at ways to improve traffic from US location on your website if you want more AdSense earnings. If you are targeting India as the target market, you will see lower amount of money per CPC. But if you are getting majority of traffic on your website from US, you will see much higher cost per click on your Google Adsense ad units.

So make sure to define your target market before entering into any niche. Few best niches that can send you lots of US traffic to increasing your earnings are below.

  • Fitness
  • Cooking
  • Real estate
  • Games
  • Technology
  • News
  • Entertainment
  • Gossip
  • Weight loss etc.

7. Nurture your SEO efforts

On-page SEO and proper SEO optimization is really the key to increasing your AdSense CPC and CTR.

Make sure to use your targeted keywords within your title tags, sub headings, URL, image alt tags, links and throughout the body to make your content rank well in Google search results.

But be aware of keyword stuffing. If you use the same keywords repeatedly, Google crawlers may think your content is spam and it will penalize your rankings. Use relevant keywords instead of keyword stuffing, it can really help you boost your search rankings.

By following the above mentioned tips, you will be able to improve Adsense CPC and CTR. If I missed an important tip that could help us increase Google AdSense cost per click or click through rate, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments.

That being said, focus on improving your CTR and start using high CPC keywords to generate more profits even with limited traffic or clicks.

  2. Anil Bro,
Your article I enjoyed a lot, but there was a question. My blog’s mostly traffic comes from countries like USA, CANADA and Arab, but still my CPC remains 0.8, while I have read in a lot of articles that when traffic comes from a country like USA, then more than $ 1 CPC it happens. But this is not the case with me. What to do?

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Rakesh, it’s great that you’re getting traffic from US, Canada etc. Your CPC is $0.80 which is still a pretty good number when compared to most of the other sites which are earning not even $0.20 per click. So you’re doing great. Keep increasing your traffic number and your overall estimated revenue will be higher. Just pick few more keywords with high CPC!

Most of the traffic is from the US and Australia. I have tried removing some ads from the site, blocked some categories but still no improvement.. any help ??

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Kay, I found it shocking when you said “with a traffic of over 2K daily organic users, Adsense doesn’t seem to pay much from over 100 clicks a day. CPC has been $0.09. Most of the traffic is from the US and Australia” and you’re not getting great results from AdSense. Also, you should know the basics like AdSense policies allow you to place 3 ad units, 3 link units, and 2 search boxes on each page of your site. If you start placing the maximum number of ads on your sites, it won’t provide much impact!

  16. rahul says:

i got low ctr 1% average need sugestion to increase ctr so i can increase earning

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Rahul, I think you should learn about properly positioning your ads, you can put your ads “above the fold” as they always have higher visibility on any site, thus gives you a better click through rate on your ads, and also on the top left, sidebar and footer are also great positions to place your AdSense ads to improve your overall CTR.

  17. Mehedi Hasan says:

Thanks Dear for your valuable information regarding Google AdSense. Here I came to know one important thing that’s the heat map. I tried some of your tips on my site and got instant effect on my CTR. I think quality content is all about we need to think. If we follow this big tips, everything will follow us accordingly.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Mehedi, if you’re looking for advanced ways to increase your CTR, then you must give a try to heatmaps so you will know where your visitors are clicking on your site so you can adjust your ad placements accordingly for the highest conversions. You can use tools like Crazy Egg. I recommend you to check out this post as welL to increase your earnings: https://bloggerspassion.com/increase-adsense-earnings/

  18. lara says:

If the site is targeting US traffic, does it make a difference where the Adsense account is registered? For a blog targeting US traffic, would the CPC be lower if the Adsense account is Indian compared to a US/UK Adsense account?

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Lara, that’s a great question. It doesn’t matter from which country you got your adsense approved but if you’re generating most traffic from US, you’ll definitely get better CPC and it won’t affect much. So it doesn’t matter whether you’ve a US account or an Indian account as long as you get traffic from western countries like US, UK.

  19. Kittugadu says:

    Hey Anil
Very nice article for improving adsense CTR… To get more visitors we need to build our own unique content so that it comes first in search engines. Revenue increasing may not be in our hands as some visitors comes read our article and leave without clicking any ads even that page shows high CPC ads.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

That’s so true, just make sure to create the ad units so that they blend in with your blog. You will need to go into your Google AdSense control panel and enter the hex color codes from your website or blog. Make sure the text color, background color and link colors all match your website’s design and appeal.

Also, NEVER use borders around the ad unit boxes. Again, you want the boxes to blend, you will have to color code the borders to match the background so that they become invisible. If possible, try to use heatmaps for quickly increasing your ad clicks.

  20. Hey Anil
That is really an informative post for anyone looking to increase CPC and CTR of Adsense. I really like the way you write. It is easy to understand.
I wanted to ask that, sometimes CPC of my website goes upto $1 but sometimes it came down to $0.02. Why this is happening?
Please give your suggestion on this.
Thanks for sharing this informative post.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Jayant, it might be mostly because of the fluctuations in your niche or market (and also has to do with your overall adsense keyword value and traffic value). If you’re bringing visitors from countries like US, you’ll definitely get higher CPC and if you’re getting mostly visitors from India or Pak, you might see low CPC value.

  21. Vrisha Malan says:

Adsense Optimization is pretty interesting for me. If we concentrate on conversion rate optimization along with SEO, I guess in less time we can improve revenue generating funda of our web marketing efforts. The best way to improve Adsense revenue is to write content on high CPC keywords, but such articles will not perform well in organic search because of high competition. We can drive traffic through low competition keywords to blog and include high paying keywords link within the article; so that visitors would click on high paying keywords link and redirect to high CPC article within a blog.

For me, it’s just studying with ad placements and experimenting with font size and colors to mix in with the content that works. I know that Google Adsense optimization is critical to earning from blogging. But it is very ugly to use 336×280 at the top of blog post because it diverts reader attention. So I always keep 728×90 or 468×60 at the upper part of the header.

CPC/CPM/PPC is the most crucial factor if your blogs main monetization factor of Google Adsense. I’m practicing very hard to increase my Adsense earnings because they are very low in my blogs. I’m working with keywords in articles, and I’m praying I can get something more from it. Anyways its an excellent article about increasing Adsense earnings. You have discussed all the key points for increasing CPC of Adsense Ads. Thanks!

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Excellent tips and the two AdSense placements I’ve personally found most effective, even on a low traffic sites, is the MPU 300 x 250 and the Leaderboard 728 x 90. Also, as you said SEO is really important and you must find profitable niche markets, it is important not to choose markets where the cost per click is too low to make it worth your while. I suggest that you do some keyword research and find out roughly what the cost per click so you can generate more money from AdSense.

You should also remember the fact that Google AdSense displays high CPC ads on the post targeting costly products and that’s the reason insurance, lawyers advice and health niche generate more AdSense income.

  22. facebooklite says:

Selecting your niche can determine how much money you can generate each and every month from your Google AdSense ads. Thank Post your helpful

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Yes, as you said, selecting your niche can determine how much money you can generate each and every month from your Google AdSense ads. Just make sure to pick the RIGHT traffic sources like search engines to earn more.

  23. Timara Hikum says:

i completely agreed with it ! i have used these tricks on my website and believe you me that it works. Thanks for haring this perfect info. To all viewers of this blog i will ask to must act upon the above mentioned recommendations so as to improve their google add sense and CTR.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Timara, yes true that, Use 75% of those ads whose content is relevant to your website and rest 25% of ads can be related to shopping. And yes, the target audience, traffic, your niche all play a huge role. Place your ads in appropriate positions. Well you can use max 4 ads on your website according to google adsense guidelines and make sure to use one at the top, second at the right side of middle, third one at the top of the title or in the middle of the centre and the fourth one at the bottom of the post and above than the footer.

  24. Hey Anil,

Some great actionable tips here. Finding the profitable keywords is definitely the most essential part of increasing revenue irrespective of any niche. This is the place where most newbies lack in. I also believe that using some good keyword research tool can help to find those long tail keywords which can actually boost Adsense CPC, along with other benefits of keyword research.

Thanks for sharing this handy article. Take care and have a great day ahead 🙂

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Manidipa, yes, agree with you, also use adsense page level ads as they will definitely double your earnings and try to target audience of USA, because their cost per click (CPC) is much higher then Indian (CPC). Focus on increasing your website’s organic traffic as oce your website start coming on first page of Google, you site traffic will automatically double and your adsense clicks too.

  25. Imran Khan says:

    Hi Anil!
I am one of the regular reader of BloggersPassion and I would say this post is really worthwhile for freshers as well as experience one. I hope I will do as same you said.
Thanks to sharing this nice article with us.

  26. PJ says:

If the site is targeting US traffic, does it make a difference where the Adsense account is registered? For a blog targeting US traffic, would the CPC be lower if the Adsense account is Indian compared to a US/UK Adsense account?

    • Anil Agarwal says:

PJ, I don’t think that should be the case. Your CPC should be calculated on the basis of visitor’s location only.

  27. amit says:

I’m getting more than 500 clicks per day, and making nearly $30 – $35 every day, my total traffic is from Google, what is the reason im getting too less CPC 0.07

    • Anil Agarwal says:

There can be a ton of reasons for low CPC Amit, so to improve your earnings, target higher paying niches such as Law, Forex, Medical and industries where customers spend bigger amounts of money for services or products.

  28. I am really looking for something that can increase my earnings from 200-20 dollars per month to somewhat 350-400 per month minimum at least. Hope by using all the above mentioned tricks can help me to grab that target.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

If you want to earn more, I’ve a quick tip for you: detect adblocker, display a message that will ensure people turn adblocker off to continue to use your website. I suggest using Detect Adblock and install it on your site so you can easily find out those people who are browsing your site installed adblacker. Works very will and will hopefully boost your adsense earnings not that more people will be seeing the ads.

  29. Arbaz Khan says:

Personally, I think that the website niche plays a huge role in determining the CTR and CPC of your Adsense ads. You can optimize it by optimizing the ad color, format and positioning but the niche of the website is the important thing.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Arbaz, yes, that’s true whether you know it or not, Google uses asynchronous JavaScript to load AdSense ads from the server and this will help to load the advertisements without blocking the content even if you’re using 3rd party apps like ad blocker and that’s the reason why you should also go for other alternatives as well: https://bloggerspassion.com/google-adsense-alternatives/

Also make your website should be neat & clean and more comfortable to eye (show your ads like someone can’t easily notice your ads on the website. You can edit your ads and choose a theme which are you using same on your website.

  30. Scarlett says:

I have heard of instances where even few blogs have drived a lot of traffic and CPC versus those that have many quality blogs. I think early starters get a good lead in this regards.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Scarlett, I wouldn’t agree with that point but yes to some extent as you said it’s true that, where even few blogs have generated a lot of traffic and CPC versus those that have many quality blogs, it has to do mostly with the authority, quality and links.

  31. Getting a high CTR is the key to making more with ad networks especially Google Adsense. CTR also depends on the niche. The ads also need to look good. It needs to be attractive which encourages visitors to click on them. I also like the idea of using ads on landing pages. However, they should be limited. Too much ads on a landing page can turn off your visitors.

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Brian, excellent points as you said, you need to encourage visitors to click on your ads. That only happens when you show the right ads by creating the right type of content. It’s also equally important to improve your SEO as finding and fixing your website issues such as images without alt tags, lengthy URL’s, slow loading speed, missing meta description etc can hurt your search traffic.

  32. Fuadi Mukhlis says:

Thanks for advice, this articel is great. I want to creat blog in english language but no more skill rit in english. Yupz, my web in Indonesian language, maybe can’t get visitor from US. Can you give me something tips?

    • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Fuadi, I’ve two simple tips for you: use formats that advertisers use the most: 728×90 , 300×250 and 160×600 these ads will get you good diversity of ads coming in ad remember that the larger the ad unit the better. Just focus on using the RIGHT keywords so you can make more no matter what country you are from.

  33. PrIyAnGsHu BG says:

I have worked on various niches, and the CPCs varies in every niche and the geolocation of the visitors puts a great influence on the CPC too. As far as the CTR is concerned, it too varies with niche, but mostly it depends upon your site’s theme and position of the ads. Thanks a lot for sharing these tips anyways, really appreciate it 🙂

    • Anil Agarwal says:

As far as the CTR is concerned, it too varies with niche, rightly said! And yes, it depends on what industry you are in and from where you are generating visitors to your site. So make sure to focus on finding the right keywords so you can attract high quality visitors to increase your earnings.

I get 15 to 20 clicks every day and most of the clicks are from USA & UK. Still the CPC I get is between the range $0.25 – 0.50. I’ve heard that clicks from UK & USA pays about $1.50 – $3.50. But, I’m not getting that much benefit.

    • Harkunwar Singh Kochar says:

It has a simple answer. American advertisers are willing to pay more than Asians.

      • kumar says:

agree harsh kumar. i have also same experience. Asian people specially Indian willing free stuff. that’s why they avoid genuine thing while, us and other country people look for quality not pay

        • Anil Agarwal says:

Hi Kumar, it’s true that most Indians usually go for free stuff and that’s why you see less conversions. So focus on using high traffic keywords from US/UK to increase your adsense income.

  44. Thanks Anil for your highly appreciated response, please tell us name of any other adsense high pay links

    • Anil Agarwal says:

I think you should go for Media.net as it’s a great alternative to adsense and pays a lot when compared to most of the displaying advertising networks. You can check out this review about it here: https://bloggerspassion.com/media-net-review/ If you are not making enough money from Ad networks such as AdSense, then you can go for it. With Media.net, you can overcome such issues by showing contextual ads which are completely relevant to the content you’re posting on your site.

Thanks Anil for the sharing. Great post, I see some of the niche websites are getting very high pay per click, and it can even goes up to $60 and above per click!

It really does matter on understand where the money go and build along the path, then we will eventually see the money flows in. 🙂

    • Getting high CPC totally based on your targeted keywords. That’s why those micro niches sites are in the market. They focus on single keyword which is of high cpc.

  47. Roshan Baskota says:

Thanks for the tips. Does the number of ads on blog effect the earning. Some people say that 3 ads is best, whereas some people have their blog surrounded by lots of ads.
    So what is the fact?

    • Anil Agarwal says:

First of all, you should not flood your website with Google Adsense or any other ads. You should limit the number of ads on your blog to 2-3 only. And as far as the adsense ad size and color combinations are concerned, you should try out different combinations and stick with those that gives you maximum profit. You should check this post https://bloggerspassion.com/google-adsense-banner-sizes/ to get a better idea about the best performing Google Adsense Ads.

    • The more ads you’ll put on your blog, the less CPC you’ll get which will reduce your earnings.

Better to put less number of ads at legitimate places like below post title and in-between the content. It’ll increase the CPC and CTR as well.
