Well, today we will see the performance results of Hostinger’s most popular plan: Premium Shared.

How did we test Hostinger’s performance?

With the help of website performance testing tools, I have experimented with 4 types of tests: 

1. Speed Test 
2. Server Response Time Test 
3. Uptime Test
4. Stress Test

My Test Site Configuration: Premium Shared (WordPress Starter) plan, India (Asia) server.

1. Speed Test

Research indicates that the ideal website loading speed should be between 0-4 seconds. Can Hostinger servers meet this benchmark? Let’s explore!

Words on Speed Test Score:

• According to GTMetrix reports, Hostinger servers achieved an A grade on average with caching enabled and a B grade with caching disabled.

• Turning on LiteSpeed plugin or caching made a big difference in the speed scores. With caching on, the Hostinger premium plan loads in a minimum of 1.8 seconds.

• The loading speed is clearly slower in locations far from the server’s data center. Using a CDN can speed things up in those distant places.

• The Hostinger premium plan has enough resources, like RAM and bandwidth, which makes it better compared to the entry plans of other web hosting services. Even when caching is turned off, it doesn’t slow down as much.

• The top speed score for the premium plan is 100%, and the lowest speed score is 88%

2. Server Response Time [TTFB] Test

We tested the Server Response Time using two websites located on different Hostinger servers. One website is hosted in the Asia (India) data center, and the other is in the USA data center. The tool we have used for this assessment is the Sucuri Load Tester.

Server response time, which measures how quickly a server responds to a request, plays a crucial role in ensuring fast and efficient delivery of web content, thus enhancing the user experience. It is also called TTFB.

We’ll now see how quickly Hostinger’s servers respond to 10-15 simultaneous requests from various global locations.

Indian servers responded slowly in Canada, Brazil, and the USA, while USA servers were slower in the UK, Australia, and Singapore. In terms of average response time, Hostinger’s India servers perform well. For audiences in the USA or nearby countries like Canada, the US-based data centers are a effective choice.

3. Hostinger Uptime Monitoring Test:

In 2021, we subscribed to Uptime Robot, which checks the uptime of our Hostinger site servers every 60 seconds. Hostinger provides a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Is this accurate? Let’s check it out…

In 5 years, a lot of things have changed, that’s why we should rely on the last 1 year’s data. And here it is:

The reports are clear. They offered a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and our reports reflect the same.

In the last 12 months, there have been a total of 23 incidents recorded on our site, which caused my Hostinger site to be down for around 3 hours in total. Well, compared to the previous year, the downtime reduced from 5 hours to 3 hours. This looks improvement, but i wish for more.

This total time is calculated by adding up all the incidents. If we look at the average downtime per incident, it’s around 3-5 minutes.

We will keep updating this Uptime table in a real time.

4. Hostinger Stress Load Test:

Website Stress test is nothing, but a performance test of a site in a situation of a sudden traffic spike. We used a load tester app K6 to send a lot of virtual traffic to both of our Hostinger websites. 

Now, let’s see what the results are:

Within 5 minutes, a total of 20.3k requests were sent to Hostinger’s servers as part of the load test, with the heaviest load occurring during the 3-minute interval.

Hostinger’s performance remained good during traffic spikes. The average response time was recorded at just 799 ms.

No errors were observed. Often, when such a heavy load is placed on a server at once, it can lead to server crashes and display a “503 Service Unavailable” error, but nothing of the sort happened here.

5. Core Web Vitals Test:

The loading speed, server response time, and other factors directly impact your core web vital metrics. The score of core web vital metrics matters significantly in Google ranking factors as it helps Google judge the user experience of your website pages. 

When we checked the core web vital metrics in the search console and saw them in green, our opinion of Hostinger improved.

However, our site’s pages are static, and Hostinger has been successful in performing well in core web vitals. If your website is dynamic and has many scripts loading, it’s possible that Hostinger’s lower-end plans may not perform as well.

6. Hostinger Performance Benchmarks vs Others:

Based on the test results, we see that Hostinger’s low-end plans are capable of delivering good performance for websites with budget constraints.

One key takeaway is that enabling the LiteSpeed performance optimization plugin, as recommended by Hostinger with default settings, can yield a 20-30% improvement in overall performance. We also confirmed this in our test results.

One of the most common mistakes I see beginner bloggers make is immediately buying a $50/year premium caching plugin (like WP Rocket) the moment they set up their Hostinger Hosting.

But the reality is different.

You do not need a paid caching plugin on Hostinger. Simply enable the free LiteSpeed Cache (LSCWP) plugin directly from your hPanel dashboard.

You will appreciate hPanel If you have ever used cPanel setups or budget hosts that push upsell ads inside the dashboard. It is one of the cleanest and easy to use dashboard.

When our Senior SEO Writer, Yash Jain, logs in to manage the automated backups, the workflow is completely distraction-free. There are no flashing banners asking us to upgrade our plan.

Routine maintenance like 1-click WordPress deployments and basic plugin updates can be executed quickly without needing a high end knowledge in server administration. For bloggers and content managers, hPanel is a big time-saver.

However, the experience shifts when a developer comes on the ground.

When my developer, Nazim, needs to push custom code, the limitations of Hostinger’s Premium Shared environment become very clear.

Shared hosting means shared resources. If you attempt a massive media import or run a heavy backend script, you will quickly hit Hostinger’s CPU limits and Inode restrictions (the total number of files you can host).

Exceeding these limits temporarily throttles your backend speed and sometimes turning a 0.6-second frontend site into a sluggish 2.5-second backend dashboard. It also triggers a 503 error.

Before you reach a human like Ignas, you often have to navigate through an automated AI chatbot layer that tries to redirect you to help articles.

I needed personalized help, so I messaged the customer support agent directly. Thankfully, a Hostinger support agent named ‘Ignas’ replied to my message in under 1 minute. We had a long conversation (approximately 1 hour) via live chat.

Question 1: Do you offer customer support in Hindi?

I had read somewhere that Hostinger’s agents can guide customers in numerous languages, such as Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, French, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, etc. Upon asking, I was told that currently, support is only available in the English language. I don’t know the exact reason behind this, but if this is permanent, it could be an issue for non-English speakers to communicate with Hostinger support.

Question 2: How can I achieve a 100% score in Google PageSpeed?

This question was a bit technical. Performance wise, Our Hostinger website was performing well because besides Hostinger optimizations, we had further optimized it using essential WordPress plugins like WP Rocket.

But still, Hostinger support’s opinion matters for websites without such plugins. And this is how their agents responded:

They get back to me with the WordPress site speed optimization guide published under Hostinger KnowledgeBase. Although, I liked their optimization guide but still the user has to do optimizations manually. 

Question 3: Can you troubleshoot my site and find performance issues?

I asked this question to see if Hostinger support only suggests solutions from their knowledge base or if they also take practical actions to help.

In response, they took some time to look at posts on my site and told me that my site was already optimized, which was indeed the case. This means that Hostinger agents can practically analyze your site and provide solutions based on the type of questions you ask.

Overall, it’s 4.4/5, but they could improve by offering support in more languages and assisting with hands-on solutions. If a custom code snippet breaks your site or a plugin crashes your database, the support team will not dive into your code to fix it for you. They will diagnose the issue and send you a link to a KnowledgeBase article so you can execute the fix yourself. It is a “Do-It-Yourself” environment, not a fully managed IT service.

Evaluating Hostinger Costs:

We were not offered any extra add-ons during the subscription that would increase our charges. It means, No hidden charges or upselling problems are there. 

But there is a hidden catch.

That highly attractive ~$2.99/mo price tag is a promotional hook that requires a 48-month (4-year) upfront commitment.

If you only want to pay for 12 months, the monthly rate jumps significantly. More importantly, you need to prepare for the “Renewal Shock.” Once your initial 4-year term ends, the plan renews at the standard rate, which is often 3x to 4x higher than your introductory price.

The good thing is they offer a free domain & free backup, free CDN, free SSL, free migration, and other freebies. Because of such an initiative, Hostinger might be considered compared to different entry level hosts that also offer 4 year discount trap.
