Last year during the Black Friday season (i.e November, 2017), we made over $13000.
Yes, you heard it right.
During this Black Friday season, Bloggers Passion made over $17000 in affiliate commission (all in one month).

Income sources for Bloggers Passion in November
Here’s a quick view of the income sources for Bloggers Passion for November, 2018.

Quick note: Since some of sales are not yet confirmed, so overall income numbers could be bit low. Most of web hosts confirm a sale after 30 days (as most have 30 days money back guarantee). We need to be as transparent as possible, that’s why sharing this quick note.
As you can see the above data, we made a grand total of $17,036 by selling 12 affiliate products from Bloggers Passion.
Let’s now briefly talk about each one of them (and we’ll also show you earning screenshots for few of them).
Made over $8k in commission through SEO tools: The #1 big thing is that we usually make a lot of affiliate sales from SEO tools. We promote a ton of SEO related tools. Using SEO tools, we made $8416 mostly from SEMrush, LongTailPro, WebCEO, SERPED etc.
Bluehost: We made 28 sales from Bluehost and generated $100 Per Sale which resulted in $2,800 in total affiliate commission.
Namecheap: We made 53 sales from Namecheap which resulted in $281 in affiliate commission. Few of them came from selling domains and few of them are also from hosting and other domain extensions.
SiteGround: 20 sales are made with SiteGround and we got $120 per sale which helped us make an overall affiliate commission of $2,400 from SiteGround hosting.
Just 1 more sale from SiteGround would have resulted in few hundred affiliate commission as SiteGround pays $150 per each sale once we reach the monthly threshold limit of 21 sales. We also used Facebook ads (where we spend over $300) for promoting SiteGround related deal pages. More on this later in the same post.
WP Rocket: This is the first time we’ve ever promoted WP Rocket which is a premium WordPress cache plugin (we’ve not used it yet, but heard a lot of positive buzz around it). Using WP Rocket affiliate program, we made 23 sales where we end up getting an affiliate commission of $335.
HostGator: HostGator really disappointed us this year where we only generated 24 sales out of which 9 sales are confirmed so far and gave us $75 per sale which resulted in $675 overall affiliate commission.
Template Monster: We generated only 1 sale from Template Monster which gave us $22 per sale.
WPX Hosting: This time during the Black Friday week, we made 11 sales from WPX hosting which resulted in generating $85 per sale which is $935 in affiliate commission overall. It’s a great news to know that people are preferring even premium (high priced) hosting products like WPX hosting (where the basic pricing plans start at $25/mo).
A2 Hosting: We made only 2 sales from A2 Hosting where we generate $90 in affiliate commission and this is the first time we promoted A2 hosting during the Black Friday week, so we’re creating a better plan to make more sales from this hosting next year.
Elegant Themes: We generated 4 sales from Elegant themes which is around $247 in affiliate commission.
HostPapa: 4 sales came from HostPapa hosting plans which generate $160 per sale that means, we made $640 in total affiliate commission from them and this is the first time we promoted HostPapa.
Hostinger: 2 sales came from Hostinger which helped us generate an affiliate commission of $195.
So there you go, we broke down all the results from 12 affiliate products that helped us earn over $17000 in just one month which is November, 2018.
Traffic sources for Bloggers Passion in November
Here are the traffic sources for Bloggers Passion for the month of Nov, 2018.
We generated 9,584 visitors to all the Black Friday related blog posts and deal pages. Here’s the screenshot of it.

As you can see from the above screenshot, here are the traffic breakdown for Bloggers Passion.
- Over 64,000 people visited the site in November
- Over 130,000 pageviews generated
- Bounce rate went down by nearly 9% for the November month
We also used Crazy Egg for tracking visitors behaviour (to clearly find out how many people are actually clicking and which products are getting more clicks and so on). Based on the experience, we also have changed the button colors from “yellow” to “green”.

Top 5 Factors Which Helped Us Earn Over $17000 In One Month
Are you curious to find out the TOP factors that helped us earn over $17K in one month from Bloggers Passion (mostly during Black Friday week)? Here are few of them.
1. We had an amazing content marketing plan in advance
Content is the king. It doesn’t what industry you are in and what monetization source you use, without great content, there’s no way you can make profits online.
The fastest and PROVEN way to make more affiliate sales is to create a solid content marketing plan so you can drive better results in terms of search traffic, sales and conversions.
That being said, here are few quick tips you can try to create an amazing content marketing plan to boost your affiliate sales.
- Before creating any blog post, ask yourself “what’s your one thing”. Is it increasing sales, drive more search traffic, get more blog comments and shares or something else? When you know your one thing, you can do much better with your content.
- Create a persona for your target audience so you can easily find out what type of content works well for them.
2. We used Facebook ads (around $300)
We spent around $300 on Facebook ads to run promotions for few deal pages.
Here’s the first sponsored post on Facebook where we promote SiteGround Black Friday deal page where we spent over $265 which resulted in 185 link clicks and reached to over 5400 people.
We also ran another ad on Facebook where we spent $50 for another SiteGround related post where we reached over 2400 people.
We didn’t know the overall ROI for the money we spent on Facebook ads because we used the same affiliate referral links (without using any exclusive tracking links to notice the ROI from Facebook ads).
3. We diversified income sources
The best part about Black Friday season for 2018 was we diversified all the income sources. If you look at our last year’s Bloggers Passion Black Friday case study, almost 80% of the income came from one affiliate product.
But this time, we’ve relied upon 12 affiliate products to generate the overall affiliate commission of $17K in the month of November. This is a good news anyway. Because putting all the eggs in one basket will hurt you sooner or later.
We’ll also be trying even more new income sources and be prepared for them for the next year’s Black Friday season and we’ll try to increase the income level for the next year.
4. We gave more exposure to the “black Friday posts” within the website
For us, the #1 goal for the November month was “Black Friday week”. To be able to rank #1 for most keywords and also to increase the search rankings for existing deal pages.
Here are few of the tweaks we made to existing black Friday posts to give more exposure and search engine visibility to them. All of them helped us get more clicks and thus generate more affiliate commission.
- High traffic posts: We included few deals within the high traffic posts. As high traffic posts generated a lot of traffic, so more exposure had been given to the deal pages as well (by interlinking, adding tables, call to actions and so on)
- Added a ton of tables
- Ranked #1 for most keywords
- Added deals in the sidebar
- Used Crazy Egg: As discussed above, Crazy Egg is a must have tool if you want to know how your audience are behaving on your site.
5. Off page SEO
Here are few off page SEO related changes we made (apart from updating blog posts on existing deal pages) on Bloggers Passion for bringing more search traffic and overall website sales in 2020.
Updated blog posts
The #1 thing we primarily focus on Bloggers Passion black Friday week is that we often update all the deal pages and blog posts that cover all the affiliate deals with new keywords. Also, almost every year, you’ll find new affiliate products with latest deals and discounts, so you’ll have to regularly update them in order to show proper deals.
Increased page speed
Bloggers Passion page loading times went up from loading in 2 seconds to within 500 milliseconds. That’s a HUGE boost up in website loading times, thanks to WPX cloud hosting feature.
WPX Hosting recently introduced WPX cloud to make your site loading times really faster. WPX Hosting internal tests show improvements from 50% to 320%, depending on the website configuration and resources. We used a some guest posts to build quality dofollow links to our deal pages. Apart from that, we also use the deal pages URLs to leave thoughtful comments on so many sites. All these link building methods helped us get better search rankings for most of the keywords.
Reduced bounce rate (from 75 to 68)
The best part about November month was, we focused mostly on increasing the page speed loading times which ultimately resulted in reduced bounce rates.
Do you want to know how much bounce rate we got for Bloggers Passion. We reduced the bounce rate from 75 to 68 (over 7%) within a month.

As you can see about during the month November, 2018, Bloggers Passion got 67.92% of bounce rate which was reduced from 74.62% in the previous month which is Oct, 2018.
The #1 thing for reduce bounce rate is “increased page loading times”. We moved to WPX cloud which also helped us to increase the overall website loading times to a great extent. So if you’re looking to reduce your bounce rates, you should first improve your website speed. It’s as simple as that.
Few key learnings
Here are few important learnings we learned during this Black Friday week for 2018. Some of them costed us a ton of money and sales so make sure to avoid those mistakes if you’re trying to make more sales in the next Black Friday sale which is going to happen in November 2020.
HostGator disappointed us
Last year, in 2017, we made over $10,000 in affiliate commission and most of that money came from HostGator.
Last year, we made 81 successful sales from Hostgator during the black Friday week and that helped us made over $10,000.
Hostgator: 81 Sales 81 x 125 = $10125
Hostgator pays $125 for each successful sale if you refer 21+ signups in a month. And we had over 81 successful referrals within a week. That means, through 81 signups we made over $10,000 by getting $125 commission for each signup.
This year, we end up making only 24 sales (out of which only 9 are confirmed sales so far) which resulted in only $675 in affiliate commission. That means, we went from making over $10,000 in 2017 to earning just a meager $675 in 2018 during black Friday week.
Here are 2 primary reasons for NOT earning much with HostGator this time.
- HostGator offered low discounts (80% last year, this year they offered only 70% discounts)
- Co-branded HostGator page wasn’t working (and we failed to notice it on time, we lost 2 days)
Let’s briefly talk about the major issues that happened with Bloggers Passion by promoting HostGator related pages.
HostGator reduced discounts by 10%
This could be the primary reason for less HostGator sign ups during this black Friday week as last year HostGator offered discounts up to 80% and most people who saw such massive discounts on HostGator hosting plans went ahead and signed up without thinking much.
But this year in 2018, HostGator offered discounts upto 70% and the conversions went down eventually. We don’t this could be the primary reason for drastic fell down of HostGator commissions but we think almost all of the affiliates who are promoting their plans lost a lot of revenue.
Co-branded HostGator page wasn’t working
The unfortunate thing was Co-branded HostGator page wasn’t working (and we failed to notice it on time, we lost 2 days). We noticed on November 23rd, 2018 that the affiliate links we’re using on all the HostGator related deal pages were not working.
It means that, the people who visited the HostGator page didn’t see any deals and discounts so they have abandoned the page without purchasing anything.
By the time we noticed the link, it’s already 2 days late (the offer started running from 21st November, 2018), so we lost definitely a couple of hundred bucks in affiliate commissions.
Be prepared for last minute deals
We created a lot of last minute deals that we haven’t covered in the first year. There’s a ton of new deals came up and few affiliate marketing product managers emailed personally to promote their affiliate products (by offering huge discounts).
So we had to create exclusive deal pages for such last minute deals in a hurry but the good news is they all started ranking well and gave great revenue. Deals such as WP Rocket, Hostinger etc worked well even though we covered them in the last few days of November month which increased the overall net profits for Bloggers Passion.

You’ll find new competitors showing up for the keywords
This is one of the biggest issues you might face as an affiliate marketer when targeting exclusive holiday seasons like black Friday week deals. You’ll be finding a lot of new sites ranking up above you and taking most of your search traffic and also sales.
The reason could be few authority sites with high DA (more than 70 DA) create exclusive black Friday deal posts and they rank higher because of their site age, domain authority, link metrics and so on.
The good news is that if you can prepare well in advance for the black Friday week by building quality links to your deal pages, you can still get into top 3 search results. It’s also better to be prepared for the last minute competitors showing up. Otherwise you’ll be devastated with the results.
Send targeted promotional emails
We used Drip for email marketing and we had around 8000 email subscribers during the black Friday week. We made sure to send both promotional and educational based emails about the affiliate products we promote to our email subscribers.
Although we hadn’t properly tracked email marketing results (we used the same affiliate links we were using at our blog posts and promotional ads, so we don’t know how many people actually signed up successfully through the email list).
So if you’re trying to make more affiliate sales especially during black Friday week, make sure to build a huge email list and send targeted promotional emails so you can generate some quick traffic to your deal pages and also increase your overall affiliate sales.
Top 10 Tips to Boost Your Affiliate Sales During Black Friday Week
Now if you’re looking for some PROVEN tips to increase your overall affiliate sales like we did here at Bloggers Passion during black Friday week, here are few amazing tips for you.
1. Start planning from now
Black Friday 2020 is one year from now on. So you’ve 1 complete year to plan for all the deals and discounts around the affiliate products you are going to promote. Just don’t sit and relax just because you think you’ve too much time which is around 1 year but plan in advance.
It’s better to create a set of affiliate product pages along with the deals by next month so you can start building links and optimize them for better keywords. You can also track those keywords to see how they are performing. Whether you know it or not, Google search traffic takes time so the sooner you start creating deal pages the better it is for you to start ranking early on Google.
2. Build a community
One of the easiest ways to boost your affiliate sales is to build a community around your blog. You can try these platforms to build a community.
- Facebook group
- Instagram profile (create a separate Instagram account for your website and talk only about the products, topics and services you cover on your blog)
- Email list (an email list is a must whether you make money from it or not as it gives you an opportunity to quickly increase your traffic, branding and conversions)

The best part about using a community is they will instantly engage with your when you provide huge deals and discounts. That way you can definitely increase your affiliate sales no matter what industry you are in.
3. Focus more on optimizing for search
Whether you agree it or not, search traffic is the king of all traffic sources. Did you know that in 2017, Google accounted for over 79% of all global desktop search traffic, followed by Bing at 7.27%, Baidu at 6.55% and Yahoo at 5.06%?
Google is the king of all traffic sources and if you really want to boost your affiliate sales, you must optimize your deal pages and blog posts for search.
Whether you know it or not, Google receives over 63,000 searches per second on any given day and 50% of search queries are four words or longer so if you’re looking to get more traffic and sales to your site, focus on finding 4+ word long tail keywords.
4. Keep an eye on your competitor sites
One of the things most professional affiliate marketers always follow online: “competitor analysis”. No matter what industry you are in, if you want to boost your affiliate sales, make sure to spy on your competitor sites to find out what strategies they are using. This alone gives a ton of ideas on how to get more traffic, target better keywords, generate links and sales to your site.
5. Be ready to invest money if you’ve to
We invested money in the following things;
- Content marketing (including creating new deal pages, updating existing deal posts and so on)
- Guest posts (also building quality links), blog commenting and so on
- Improving the overall user experience
- Increasing the website speed and so on
So if you’re thinking about making more sales, be ready to invest money as nothing comes for free online.
6. Diversify your traffic sources
Although getting more visitors from search engines like Google is great and we often drive majority of the traffic from search engines every time when there’s a special discount such as black Friday deals going around. But it’s always better to diversify your traffic sources.
Why? You can never depend on just one traffic source and expect the best results. That being said, you can create multiple traffic sources and below are few of the best sources bloggers can use to get more traffic and sales.
- Email lists
- Paid promotions (using Facebook ads, Instagram ads and so on)
- Blogger cross promotions
- Social media marketing (such as creating an engaging Facebook group)
7. Make proper on-site changes
Make sure to spend quality amount of time to get ready for black Friday sales and you need to make a ton of on-site changes to make your keywords rank higher in search results.
The on-site changes include the following:
- Adding new images and including image alt tags with proper keywords
- Changing headlines and adding more long tail keywords
- Increasing the site speed
- Changing your sidebar with latest deals and discounts
- Publishing your deal posts on the home page
- Including your deal post URLs in the sidebar
- And the list goes on
8. Create deal pages
Make a list of all the affiliate programs you promote on your blog. Also make a spreadsheet and list out all the potential deal pages you’re going to use on the next year black Friday week.
Also come up with a list of high potential keywords for the affiliate products you promote and make sure to create deal pages around them in advance.
9. Your website speed can make or break your affiliate sales
If there’s only ONE thing that could make or break your affiliate marketing success, it is this: your website speed.
It doesn’t matter how many deals and discounts you provide, if your site is taking more than 3 seconds to load, you’ll see 53% drop (according a research).
Here are few tools to check your site speed.
- WebPageTest: This the industry standard for measuring site performance and the results are collected from real browsers running common operating systems (so an essential tool to find the real performance of your site)
- Pingdom: It’s a simple tool which makes makes it easy for you to know website loading times and also gives you a grade score out of 100.
- GTmetrix: It gives you actionable insights about the best way to optimize your website speed
10. Aim for the best, prepare for the worst
You are capable of more than you know. If we can make it, you too do the same thing. It’s just a matter of time and consistent practice. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path.
Aim high, start taking small actions and you will succeed in affiliate marketing. The key here is to aim for the best and always (ALWAYS) prepare for the worst.
We had few hiccups with Grammarly online proofreading tool (where we made around $1500 in affiliate commission) but lost our affiliate account because of one small issue. So always work really hard and prepare for anything that comes your way.
