Are you searching for the best HostGator alternatives for 2024?

You’re in the right place.

Although HostGator offers affordable hosting plans, they’ve pathetic customer support.

In fact, I used HostGator on BloggersPassion for many years and then migrated to WPX Hosting for security reasons.

So, if you’re looking for affordable yet superior alternatives to HostGator, I have listed the 11 best recommendations for you.

Let’s jump into the details without further ado.

Why Choose HostGator Alternative?

1. It’s expensive (AND doesn’t offer value for money)

There are lots of other HostGator competitors that offer better features (Hostinger, ChemiCloud), yet they are available at a lower price.

So, they are worth exploring if you’re considering a switch to a different host and want to save costs.

2. You can easily outgrow its servers

HostGator server sizes are limited for the pricing. For instance, Hostinger’s base plan gives you 100 GB of space, while Hostgator only has 10 GB in its base plan.

3. You can find better performance with other hosts

HostGator offers decent performance for the price. But guess what? There are a lot of servers that are better optimized for speed and consume less server resources (for instance, servers using LightSpeed Cache).

This means you can host your site on the same server setup without worrying about resource consumption and scaling up too early.

4. For better features

Hostgator doesn’t offer advanced features like staging sites (which Hosting providers like InMotion and WPX offer).

Staging websites are helpful for testing purposes – before rolling it out to the live site.

5. Free Backups

On HostGator, you’ve to pay separately for backups. However, there are many hosting providers that provide even DAILY backups for FREE (for example, ChemiCloud).

7. More renewal costs

HostGator’s base plan costs $3.75, but only when you buy it for the first time. The renewal rates are steep! $11.99/month ($143.88/year).

While this is common in the hosting industry, where you’re given a discounted price at first, and the renewal rates are high, there are still a couple of options that offer more affordable renewal rates (Namecheap).

How We Picked The HostGator Alternatives?

We’ve considered several crucial factors while considering HostGator alternatives, such as:

  • Pricing
  • Ease Of Use
  • Performance
  • Data Centers
  • Reliability And Uptime
  • Security
  • Backups
  • Customer Support

Plus, we’ve compared each of the HostGator competitors head-to-head with HostGator so that you can see how they stack up against each other.

We’ve also given “Our Overall Score” for each hosting provider out of 10, which will help you know how they stand out. Our scoring system is weighted based on the following selection criteria:

Criteria:Scoring Weight:
Affordability30%
Performance20%
User-Interface25%
Features15%
Security10%
Customer Support10%

We’ve given top priority to affordability and performance because these are the top-most factors to consider whenever you’re picking a hosting provider.

Then comes the user interface and feature set. The easier to use a hosting is, the faster and more convenient it becomes to set up and run your website.

Plus, we also considered a specific set of features like more storage space and well-optimized servers with better caching.

Finally, we also considered the security features and customer support.

1. Hostinger – The Best Overall Pick

Our Overall Score: 9.5/10

wordpress dashboard hostinger

Hostinger Pros:

  • Up to 100 websites limit even on their base plan with storage of up to 100 GB (HostGator’s base Plan only offers 10 GB).
  • Free Backups on all plans (Base plan: weekly backups, higher-tier plans: daily FREE backups).
  • LightSpeed optimized fast-loading servers.

Hostinger Cons:

  • Limited email accounts in the base plan.
  • No phone support which can be an issue for some users.

Check out my detailed Hostinger review, where I have added tests and results.

Hostinger is one of the MOST popular hosting out there (especially when you’re looking for the best overall pick).

Why?

Because it checks off all the essentials you’d expect from a high-performance hosting provider. Think about:

  • LightSpeed Optimized Servers
  • Affordable Pricing
  • Ultra User-Friendly Interface
  • Global data center coverage
  • Easy FREE Backups
  • And more…

I’ve been using Hostinger for a couple of years now. AND almost always, my sites load just under 1.5 to 2 seconds on Hostinger servers (even on their base shared hosting plans).

And regarding Uptime – in my opinion, Hostinger offers the best uptime out of all the budget-friendly hosting providers. Take a look:

hostingers performance metrics pingdom

Now, of course, you won’t get the same level of speed and load times as you’d with WPX Hosting or other high-end hosting.

But for the price, Hostinger offers the best deal out there.

It REALLY hits it out of the park when we compare it with HostGator side-by-side.

Hostinger vs. HostGator: Side-By-Side Comparison

Pricing🏆 $2.99/month$3.75/month

Security🏆 Free SSL, DDoS Protection, 2FA (Tie)🏆 Free SSL, DDoS Protection, 2FA (Tie)
Customer SupportLive Chat, Email Support, Knowledge Base, but lacks Phone Support🏆 Phone Support, Live Chat, Knowledge Base, Email Support (Faster and Better)

Hostinger is hands down the best overall alternative to HostGator, offering the perfect combination of affordability, performance, and features.

Hostinger’s base plan offers a HUGE 100 GB of storage and supports up to 100 websites, far surpassing HostGator’s 10 GB storage and single website limit.

This makes Hostinger an ideal choice for those managing multiple sites or requiring ample storage space.

Now, Hostinger does have some limitations.

For instance, Its base plan only includes up to 100 email accounts, while HostGator offers unlimited email accounts on all plans.

Furthermore, Hostinger lacks phone support, which may be a drawback for some users. If you require phone support or unlimited email accounts, consider alternatives like Bluehost or DreamHost.

In a nutshell, Hostinger may not be the best fit for growing businesses, heavy e-commerce sites, or agency owners.

For these cases, more suitable alternatives include WPX Hosting for e-commerce sites, InMotion Hosting for growing businesses, or ChemiCloud for agencies.

But if you’re a professional blogger with a tight budget and you’re looking for a high performance LightSpeed-optimized server, then Hostinger is the best overall pick of all.

To see a detailed comparison, check out this guide: Hostinger vs HostGator.

Hostinger Pricing:

Hostinger’s shared hosting plans start at just $2.99/month. Apart from Shared Hosting, they also offer Cloud and VPS hosting plans.

Not Best For: Growing Businesses, High-Traffic E-Commerce Sites, Agency Owners

Best For: Bloggers, Small And Mid-Sized Businesses, Content Creators

2. Bluehost – Best User-Friendly Pick

Our Overall Score: 8/10

bluehost dashboard

Bluehost Pros:

  • Well-organized and easy-to-use cPanel-based user interface.
  • Affordable pricing with phone support (that only few hosting providers offer)

Bluehost Cons:

  • Servers not well-optimized to handle high-traffic websites.

Bluehost powers more than 2 million websites on the web.

In my opinion, for beginners with limited requirements, they are the best options.

Over the years, I’ve hosted a bunch of my sites with Bluehost AND never had any issues.

Bluehost vs. HostGator: Side-By-Side Comparison

Comparison:Bluehost:HostGator:

Customer Support🏆 Phone Support, Live Chat, Email Support, Knowledge Base (Tie)🏆 Phone Support, Live Chat, Knowledge Base, Email Support (Tie)

In terms of performance, Bluehost is similar to HostGator.

But specifically, what makes Bluehost stand out is its modern, user-friendly interface and a great customer support (including phone support).

You also get a decent global coverage – 6 data centers spread from America to Asia.

Website hosting limit, speed, and storage space are similar to that you get with HostGator.

If you want high-performance and more website hosting limits in a single plan at an affordable price, Hostinger is a better option.

Also remember:

Bluehost doesn’t provide any backup solutions on its basic plan. Higher-tier plans do offer free daily backups, but only for the first year.

If daily backups are crucial for your website, consider alternatives like ChemiCloud or WPX Hosting, which provide free daily backups on all plans.

Email account limits are another area where Bluehost falls behind HostGator.

If you need more email accounts, you’ll have to upgrade to Bluehost’s higher-tier plans or consider alternatives like Hostinger or DreamHost.

Overall, Bluehost is not the best fit for professional bloggers, agency owners, large businesses, or e-commerce businesses.

Instead better picks include WPX Hosting or InMotion Hosting for growing large businesses and e-commerce sites.

But considering its user-friendly interface and different customer support options, Bluehost is a GREAT choice for beginner bloggers.

Bluehost Pricing:

Bluehost plans start at only $2.95 per month. This makes it super affordable and a perfect fit for beginners, bloggers on a limited budget, or those with minimal requirements (like hosting just a single landing page site).

Not Best For: Professional Bloggers, Agency Owners, Large Businesses, E-Commerce Businesses

Best For: Small Businesses, Beginner Bloggers, Designers

3. ChemiCloud – Best Hosting For Professional Bloggers

Our Overall Score: 9.3/10

shared hosting chemicloud

ChemiCloud Pros:

  • LightSpeed optimized server and over 17 data centers – ensuring an outstanding website loading speed.
  • Unlimited email accounts even on their base plan (many hosting providers offer this feature limited or only in their higher tier plans)

ChemiCloud Cons:

  • Renewal rates are higher compared to other hosts (For example, base plan renews at $9.95 but when you purchase for the first time it’s only $2.95)

ChemiCloud is a relatively newer web host. But it quickly gained popularity among bloggers because of its amazing performance.

I’ve already got a detailed review of ChemiCloud which you can check out for a more in-depth review.

But in short, here’s what makes it specifically stand out:

  • LightSpeed optimized servers
  • Wide network of over 17 data centers spread across US, Europe, Asia, and Australia

In my tests, I found my sites loading in less than 1 second, which is HUGE!

Another thing that really impressed me: the user-friendly interface.

chemicloud dashboard

Whether I had to access the dashboard or explore services, I could easily check them out through the left-sidebar. Plus, the main work area looks neatly organized.

In my opinion, ChemiCloud has a BETTER cPanel-based interface than HostGator (and it reminds me of Hostinger’s hPanel – which I really enjoy using).

Apart from speed and interface, I also liked their customer support experience. My queries were replied within seconds.

And whether it’s backup or security, ChemiCloud again comes out on top.

The only major thing to consider with this host – the renewal price. But other than that, it checked all the boxes for a high-performance web host.

ChemiCloud vs. HostGator: Side-By-Side Comparison

Comparison:ChemiCloud:HostGator:
Pricing🏆 $2.95/month$3.75/month
Ease of use🏆 cPanel, more user-friendly (looks similar to hPanel)cPanel, simple but still has a learning curve
Base Plan Storage🏆 20 GB10 GB

Performance🏆 Much better response time, loading speed, and uptime (LightSpeed optimized servers)Average response time, loading speed and uptime

Security🏆 Free SSL, DDoS Protection, 2FA (Tie)🏆 Free SSL, DDoS Protection, 2FA (Tie)
Customer SupportLive Chat, Email Support, Knowledge Base, but lacks Phone Support🏆 Phone Support, Live Chat, Knowledge Base, Email Support (Faster and Better)

ChemiCloud also offers a generous 20 GB of storage on its base plan, which is double that of HostGator’s 10 GB.

However, both providers offer support for only 1 website and unlimited email accounts on their entry-level plans, making them suitable for bloggers and small businesses.

ChemiCloud also provides FREE daily backups – a feature that HostGator only offers as a paid option

Both ChemiCloud and HostGator offer similar security features.

However, ChemiCloud falls short in customer support, lacking phone support, which HostGator provides.

If phone support is a must-have for you, consider alternatives like Bluehost.

Considering all this, ChemiCloud may not be the best fit for e-commerce sites or for agency owners. For these cases, consider alternatives like WPX Hosting.

But overall, if performance and data centers are your top priorities, ChemiCloud is a GREAT option.

ChemiCloud Pricing:

Its shared hosting starter plans begin at $2.95 per month. Apart from shared hosting, you also get WordPress Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Cloud VPS Hosting.

Although renewal rates are a bit high, it more than makes up for the features, performance, and support you get.

Not Best For: E-Commerce Sites, Agency Owners

Best For: Professional Bloggers, Growing Businesses, Developers

4. Namecheap – Best Budget-Friendly Pick

Our Overall Score: 7.5/10

namecheap review

Namecheap Pros:

  • Free weekly backups (with HostGator you had to purchase a backup service as a paid add on).
  • Affordable pricing plans starting at just $1.98 with lower renewal rates.

Namecheap Cons:

  • Limited data centers and servers not optimized to handle high-traffic load.

Namecheap is the best budget-friendly host.

Unlike other hosts, it doesn’t charge you sky-high renewal rates! So if you’ve just started blogging or want to host some low-traffic sites, it’s good to go.

But in my opinion, there are definitely some downsides of choosing a low-budget hosting like Namecheap.

First, you’ve to deal with an outdated user-interface.

namecheap cpanel

Secondly, although performance is decent. It’s not something to get excited over.

One area where Namecheap stands out though, is its free weekly backups, a feature that HostGator only offers as a paid option.

Namecheap vs. HostGator: Side-By-Side Comparison

Comparison:Namecheap:HostGator:
Pricing🏆 $1.98/month$3.75/month
Ease of usecPanel, simple and a bit outdated design🏆 cPanel, simple but comparatively slightly cleaner and neatly organized

Data CentersNorth America, UK, Europe (Only 3 total)🏆 North America, South America, Europe, Asia (Over 20 data centers)
Backups🏆 Free weekly backupsPaid backup option only
Email accounts (Base Plan)Up to 30 email accounts🏆 Unlimited email accounts
Security🏆 Free SSL, DDoS Protection, 2FA (Tie)🏆 Free SSL, DDoS Protection, 2FA (Tie)
Customer SupportLive Chat, Email Support, Knowledge Base, but lacks Phone Support🏆 Phone Support, Live Chat, Knowledge Base, Email Support

Namecheap’s base plan allows for up to 3 websites, while HostGator only supports 1 website on its entry-level plan.

Performance you can’t expect much as HostGator has a slight lead over Namecheap, with better response times, loading speeds, and significantly higher uptime.

If your website requires consistent performance, consider alternatives like ChemiCloud or FastComet, which offer better performance than both Namecheap and HostGator.

Also, Namecheap’s global reach is limited, with only 3 data centers in North America, the UK, and Europe.

The main drawback – it doesn’t have any data centers in Asia. So if your major audience base is in this region go with Hostinger, FastComet, or A2 Hosting that offers wider data center options.

AND if you require unlimited email accounts, keep in mind that Namecheap’s base plan only includes up to 30 email accounts.

Both Namecheap and HostGator offer similar security features.

However, Namecheap falls short in customer support, lacking phone support, which HostGator provides. If you prefer phone support, consider alternatives like Bluehost.

So, in a nutshell, Namecheap is not the best fit for growing businesses, heavy e-commerce sites, professional bloggers, or mid-sized to large-scale businesses.

For these cases, consider alternatives like WPX Hosting for e-commerce sites, GreenGeeks for growing brands, or InMotion Hosting for larger businesses.

But if you’re a beginner blogger or have a tight budget, and you don’t need all bells and whistles in performance, only then Namecheap is a solid option worth considering.

Namecheap Pricing:

Plans starting at just $1.98 per month with free website migration and free SSL. Renewal rates are quite low (only $4.48 in their base plan).

Not Best For: Growing Businesses, Heavy E-Commerce Sites, Professional Bloggers, Mid-sized to Large-scale businesses

Best For: Beginner Bloggers, Small Businesses On A Budget, Creators With Simple Landing Page Sites

5. GreenGeeks – Best Hosting For Growing Brands

Our Overall Score: 8.5/10

greengeeks cpanel dashboard

GreenGeeks Pros:

  • Better LightSpeed servers with faster speed than HostGator.
  • More storage space even on their base plan (50 GB).

GreenGeeks Cons:

  • Backup-maintenance is a bit challenging compared to other hosts.

GreenGeeks is a well-known host popular for its eco-friendly web hosting service.

In my tests, I found the test website loaded in just 1 second. I also found a good uptime of 99.99% in one month’s time frame.

greengeeks uptime test

I also like its user-interface: quite well-organized and looks modern.

The free nightly backup feature is also a great advantage when compared to HostGator.

But one area where there’s still a scope of improvement is the customer support especially when compared to other high-end web hosts.

GreenGeeks vs. HostGator: Side-By-Side Comparison

Comparison:GreenGeeksHostGator:

Customer Support🏆 Live Chat, Email Support, Knowledge Base, Phone Support (More Knowledgeable Support Staff WIth Faster Response)Phone Support, Live Chat, Knowledge Base, Email Support

GreenGeeks also offers a generous 50 GB of storage on its base plan, compared to HostGator’s 10 GB.

But note that GreenGeeks’ base plan only includes up to 50 email accounts.

And while GreenGeeks gives a decent coverage with 5 data centers across North America, Europe, and Asia, HostGator still has a wider global reach with over 20 data centers.

If your target audience is spread across multiple continents, consider alternatives like ChemiCloud or FastComet for better global coverage.

GreenGeeks may not be the best fit for large-scale e-commerce sites, beginner bloggers, or businesses on a tight budget.

For them, better options include Hostinger (for affordable pricing and better value for money), Bluehost (for user-friendliness), or WPX Hosting (for e-commerce sites).

But overall, if you want a high-performance, eco-friendly host on a budget, GreenGeeks is the best option.

GreenGeeks Pricing:

GreenGeeks offers all types of web hosting services – from WordPress hosting to WooCommerce, Reseller, and VPS. Its WordPress hosting plans start at just $2.95 per month.

Not Best For: Large-Scale E-Commerce Sites, Beginner Bloggers, Businesses On A Budget

Best For: Professional Bloggers, Mid-High Traffic Website Owners, Business Owners, Agencies, Growing Brands Focused On Eco-Friendliness And Sustainability

6. FastComet – Best Secured Hosting For Small Businesses

Our Overall Score: 9/10

fastcomet hosting pricing details

FastComet Pros:

  • Solid security features like ModSecurity Manager and Imunify360 server security.
  • A wide 11 data center coverage, globally leading to faster website loading times.

FastComet Cons:

  • Limited storage space and limited email accounts (in the base plan).

I like FastComet for its super affordable price.

It’s cheaper than HostGator (and even Namecheap), yet offers significant high performance.

I was REALLY impressed by FastComet’s performance results. Websites load within 1.5 to 2 seconds. Performance-wise it was quite close to ChemiCloud hosting.

However, I do think that the user interface could have been better – as it looks outdated.

Customer Support🏆 Live Chat, Email Support, Knowledge Base, Phone Support (Faster and more Knowledgeable)Phone Support, Live Chat, Knowledge Base, Email Support

Both FastComet and HostGator offer similar ease of use with their cPanel interfaces, 10 GB of storage, and support for one website on their base plans.

But comparatively, FastComet offers BETTER security features.

In addition to the standard free SSL, DDoS protection, and 2FA that both providers offer, FastComet goes above and beyond with ModSecurity Manager, Account Isolation, and Imunify360 Server Security.

This makes it the top choice for businesses that require STRONG security measures.

FastComet also offers free daily backups, while HostGator only provides paid backup options.

In terms of customer support, FastComet outperforms HostGator with faster response times and more knowledgeable staff.

However, if you need unlimited email accounts, HostGator is comparatively a bit better, as FastComet’s base plan only includes up to 5 email accounts.

That said, from FastComet’s Plus Plan (starting at just $3.59/month) you get the benefit of unlimited email accounts.

In short, if you’re looking for a reliable host with GREAT performance and affordable pricing plans, FastComet is a top choice.

FastComet Pricing:

FastComet offers these three main hosting plans – Shared, Cloud VPS, and Dedicated servers.

Its base shared hosting plan starts at a super budget-friendly price point of just $1.79 per month.

7. HostPapa – Best Easy-To-Use Pick For Creators

Our Overall Score: 6.9/10

hostpapa plans

HostPapa Pros:

  • Fast and knowledgeable customer support and includes phone support.
  • Huge storage space of up to 100 GB even in the base plan (HostGator only offers 10 GB).

HostPapa Cons:

  • Only 2 data centers worldwide which is limited when compared to other hosts offering up to 17 data centers.

HostPapa is a decent hosting with interface, and features similar to HostGator. However, it does stand out in two major areas. The price point and the storage space.

And I like their customer support as well.

hostpapa support

Anytime I had any questions, they resolved it quickly. Plus, the major benefit – they also provide phone support along with all the standard support options.

Of course, don’t expect outstanding performance with their servers. For that, Hostinger, or WPX are better picks.

But as a step up from HostGator with more storage space and good customer support, HostPapa is a decent option.

HostingPapa vs. HostGator: Side-By-Side Comparison

Comparison:HostPapa:HostGator:

Customer Support🏆 Live Chat, Email Support, Knowledge Base, Phone Support (Quick response time)Phone Support, Live Chat, Knowledge Base, Email Support

In terms of performance, HostPapa takes the lead with better response times, faster loading speeds, and higher uptime.

However, HostPapa falls short in terms of data center locations, with only 2 in North America and Europe, while HostGator has over 20 data centers.

For email hosting, HostPapa’s base plan offers up to 10 email accounts, while HostGator offers unlimited email accounts. If you need more than 10 email accounts, Hostinger might be a better choice.

HostPapa and HostGator offer similar security features, such as free SSL, DDoS protection, and 2FA.

However, if security is your top priority, FastComet stands out with additional features.

In short, HostPapa is not a suitable pick if you’re specifically looking for high-performance or the best user-friendly interface.

But if you’re looking for a decent web host at an affordable price with good customer support, then HostPapa is definitely worth considering.

HostPapa Pricing:

Starts at $2.95 per month. Their Pro plan offers more value for money as you get unlimited websites and email accounts for just $5.95/month.

Best For: Bloggers, Small Businesses, Creators, Designers

8. WPX Hosting – Best High-Performance Pick For Large Companies

Our Overall Score: 9.1/10

wpx hosting pricing plans

WPX Hosting Pros:

  • LightSpeed optimized servers and custom CDN leading to outstanding performance.
  • Great customer support.

WPX Hosting Cons:

  • Costlier than other hosting providers and free daily backups.

If there’s one host that I can highly recommend for performance, then that’s WPX Hosting. Here’s how its speed compares with other major hosts:

wpx loading time vs hostinger vs bluehost vs hostgator vs godaddy

I’ve been using their hosting plans for over 8 years. Already have a detailed review of WPX Hosting. So you can check that out for an in-depth look.

But in short, if your website is getting high traffic, and you don’t want to make any compromise on speed, then look no further than WPX Hosting.

Top-end LightSpeed servers and their own custom CDN (known as the XDN) with over 37 end points will make your website load – within a matter of seconds.

wpx data centers and xdn points

There’s one area though that could have been better – its user interface design.

When you’re exploring your WPX hosting dashboard for hours, the bright orange color scheme can feel a bit uncomfortable for the eye. It would be great if a simpler and lighter color scheme is added for a better user experience.

Although pricier than HostGator, WPX Hosting offers more value.

The base plan includes 15 GB storage and supports up to 5 websites, making it great for managing multiple sites. Plus, free daily backups keep your data safe.

While WPX Hosting has fewer data centers than HostGator, its locations in the US, UK, and Australia should work well for most users.

If having a nearby data center is crucial, consider Hostinger or ChemiCloud, which offer more global coverage.

Both WPX Hosting and HostGator provide solid customer support, but HostGator has the advantage of phone support.

But that said, if you want ultra quick support responses (within 30-40 seconds), then WPX is the best choice.

WPX is the best choice for bloggers with lots of high-traffic sites and those who highly value fast performance.

However, it’s quite expensive compared to other hosting providers. So for bloggers on a limited budget, hosting options like Hostinger or ChemiCloud are better choices.

But in short, if FAST website loading speed is your top priority, then WPX is the best pick.

WPX Hosting Pricing:

Plans start at $20.83/month. Expensive than other low-budget hosts like HostGator or Namecheap. But offers outstanding performance.

Not Best For: Businesses On A Budget, Beginner Bloggers, Small Businesses

Best For: Professional Bloggers, Content Creators, Startups, Large Companies

9. A2 Hosting – Best Customizable Hosting For E-Commerce Websites

Our Overall Score: 8.6/10

a2 hosting deal

A2 Hosting Pros:

  • Lots of features and customization options (which other hosts like HostGator or even WPX hosting don’t offer).
  • Free backups (except the base plan) and also free unlimited email accounts.

A2 Hosting Cons:

  • Limited data center and outdated user interface.

The thing I like the most about A2 Hosting is its flexibility. You can create your own desired hosting environment, the way you like.

Don’t like cPanel? No problem, you can choose other control panels like ZPanel or Webuzo. This flexibility is perfectly suitable for developers who have specific requirements for their web development projects.

Furthermore, from LightSpeed, Apache, to NGINX – you can select whichever server you prefer.

Now on top of all these flexibilities, you get unlimited email accounts and a HUGE 100 GB storage right from its base plan.

In my tests, I found that its speed performance was decent. Nothing special. But still enough for your site to load quickly in a few seconds.

And it’s worth noting that A2 Hosting offers good – 99.9% uptime.

In terms of performance, A2 Hosting and HostGator offer similar response times, and loading speeds on its starter plans.

However, if you move towards its high-tier plans and select more optimized servers you will notice SIGNIFICANT performance boost with A2 Hosting.

While A2 Hosting has fewer data centers than HostGator, its locations in North America, Europe, and Asia provide decent global coverage.

A2 Hosting offers FREE automatic daily backups on all plans except the base plan, providing an added layer of protection for your website data.

HostGator, on the other hand, only offers paid backup options.

Both A2 Hosting and HostGator offer unlimited email accounts on their base plans, as well as similar security features.

For beginners and bloggers with minimal technical requirements for hosting their sites, Hosting providers like Namecheap or Dreamhost are better options.

But overall, A2 Hosting is a great option for those who are looking for a flexible, customizable and scalable hosting at a relatively affordable price.

A2 Hosting Pricing:

From shared, VPS, to dedicated – A2 Hosting offers a TON of different hosting plans with different price ranges. Its base, shared hosting plan starts at just $2.99 per month (but remember that the renewal rates are quite high – $12.99 per month for the base plan)

Not Best For: Beginner Bloggers, Businesses On A Budget

Best For: E-Commerce Websites, Developers, Professional Bloggers

10. InMotion Hosting – Best Pick For Mid-Sized Businesses

Our Overall Score: 8.9/10

inmotion hosting review

InMotion Hosting Pros:

  • Better performance than HostGator.
  • More storage space (100 GB) even in the base plan.

InMotion Hosting Cons:

  • Limited data centers and backup option available only as a paid addon.

InMotion hosting is one of the best HostGator alternatives if speed and security are your top priorities.
Starting with speed, surprisingly, I found that website loading speed was less than one second in my tests. And that’s really quick in my opinion – closer to what I found with WPX hosting.

inmotion hosting speed test

However, when I switched server location to Asia, the speed results went downhill, taking a few seconds to load just like an average host. I think this was mainly because InMotion has limited data centers (only in the US and Europe).

Security is an area where InMotion Hosting stands out, offering advanced features like ModSecurity and Sucuri Website Security in addition to the standard free SSL, DDoS protection, and 2FA.

This makes it an ideal choice for businesses that prioritize website security and protection.

InMotion Hosting’s base plan comes with an impressive 100 GB of storage and supports up to 2 websites.

On the other hand, HostGator only offers 10 GB storage and has a single website limit.

Although InMotion Hosting has fewer data centers than HostGator, its locations in the US and Europe ensure fast loading times for visitors in these regions.

However, if your target audience is spread across the globe, you may want to consider alternatives like GreenGeeks or FastComet for better worldwide coverage.

Both InMotion Hosting and HostGator offer paid backup options, which may be a drawback for users who require free automatic backups.

If this is a priority for you, consider alternatives like DreamHost or A2 Hosting.

Also, InMotion Hosting’s base plan only includes up to 10 email accounts, while HostGator offers unlimited email accounts. If your business requires more than 10 email accounts, you may need to upgrade to a higher-tier plan or look at alternatives like Bluehost or HostPapa.

Both InMotion Hosting and HostGator provide excellent customer support options.

InMotion Hosting may not be the best fit for beginners, small websites, or those on a tight budget. For these cases, consider alternatives like Namecheap for budget-friendly options or FastComet for user-friendly hosting.

However, if you want a powerful hosting provider with strong servers and good customer support, InMotion Hosting is a top choice.

11. Dreamhost – Best Pick For Beginners

Our Overall Score: 6/10

dreamhost plans

Dreamhost Pros:

  • User-friendly cPanel-based interface, suitable for beginners.
  • Affordable pricing with relatively lower renewal rates than hosts.

Dreamhost Cons:

  • Limited data centers present only two present in the US.

Dreamhost is a decent web host with many features similar to HostGator. However, there are a few areas where it stands out:

First, it offers a more user-friendly dashboard than HostGator. Secondly, you get a huge 50 GB storage in its base plan compared to only 10 GB storage in HostGator.

The one thing that I like the most is the availability of daily free backups. This comes as a paid add-on with HostGator.

DreamHost’s base plan offers up to 50 GB of storage, significantly more than HostGator’s 10 GB.

In terms of performance, DreamHost and HostGator offer comparable response times, loading speeds, and uptime.

However, if you require top-notch performance, consider alternatives like Hostinger or ChemiCloud.

DreamHost’s data centers are limited to the US, with only 2 locations available.

One drawback of DreamHost is that email hosting is not included in the base plan and requires a paid add-on of $1.67/month. Only higher-tier plans offer unlimited email accounts.

DreamHost and HostGator provide similar security features and offer comparable customer support options.

If exceptional customer support is a top priority, consider WPX Hosting as an alternative.

DreamHost may not be the best fit for businesses with a global audience or those requiring a large number of email accounts. In these cases, alternatives like A2 Hosting or InMotion Hosting may be more suitable.

Overall, if you’re looking for a good budget-friendly host with a nice user interface, storage, and backups, Dreamhost is worth considering.

Dreamhost Pricing

Starts at just $2.59 per month (renews at $5.99 per month, which is relatively lower compared to renewal rates of InMotion Hosting).

With Dreamhost, for email accounts you have to pay extra in the base plan. But with its higher-tier plan, you get unlimited email accounts.
